Description
On Dec. 29, 1880 the cornerstone of Our Lady of Visitation Catholic Church was laid during a rare South Texas snowstorm. The bricks were made at nearby El Rancho de Santa Maria, for this Gothic Revival style Architecture, which was owned by L. J. Hynes who also gave the land to the church.
Father Peter I. Keralum drew the plans for the structure that was dedicated on June 29, 1882. The church had a wooden steeple which was blown off during a hurricane in 1933. Nearby residents of Blue Town, Santa Maria and neighboring communities used to worship there.
