Description
Have you ever thought about the consequences of going 100% Green Energy before it's ready for primetime? It goes without saying, that most humans care about the planet. Yet with all the hype and fear about the planet going to burn in 10 yrs or so (which won’t happen), those who want 100% Green Energy to deter a 1 - 2 degree increase over 100 years are not taking into consideration the consequences in moving too fast with policies that are unreliable and unsustainable can have dire effects...
No sun or wind for days or weeks on end, means no power at all… Just darkness. Like solar lights outside my house that won't come on for days, once the batteries die, until it's sunny again for a day or two. In 2020 only about 4% of US energy was from wind and solar which covers approximately 7M acres. According to Princeton's Net-Zero Project it is estimated that to go all wind and solar (vehicles, utilities, etc) it will take more than 250M acres for wind: which is equivalent to covering the entire states of OK, AR, NE, IA, MO, KS and would include 1.5M acres offshore the east coast.
Solar would cover most of IN. Imagine the cost monetarily and environmentally for what still won’t be reliable energy! While oil, our liquid gold, is underground with little to no impact to the beauty of America like turbines and solar farms have. If the aforementioned is a close estimate, how much land and architecture will need to be demolished to make room for all the wind turbines and solar panels? And would most humans be ok with large swaths of US land being covered with them? As a photographer, I hate seeing the beauty of landscapes ruined by windmills and would prefer seeing less not tens of thousands more...
Then there’s the minerals needed for solar panels, turbines and batteries. While America doesn’t have all the minerals needed to mine for, what we do have would make thousands of acres barren land. And to count on bad actors for minerals would make the US beholding to any price they want to ask for them. Also the US electrical grid is antiquated and needs desperate updating. Now brownouts and blackouts are becoming more prevalent and it's going to be worse with current green energy policies being forced through without infrastructure to support it; especially as more vehicles need charging. And today’s charging stations are mostly run on coal which is ironic since natural gas and nuclear is cleaner energy sources at lower costs then renewables.
Outrageous Diesel prices are already impacting the supply chain and farming. Big rig trucks, ships, trains and most farm equipment, all run on diesel. If truckers park their rigs, ships drop anchor and trains park nothing will be transported and if farmers can’t afford to supply crops, then food will not only be costly, but impossible to find. In order for humans to survive, diesel needs to be prevalent and cheap again or people will become hungry for the first time in decades! It’s estimated by the UN that near 50M around the world will experience hunger in 2022… Totally unacceptable!!!
Big rigs and farm equipment can never do their work properly with today’s technology if electric. Truckers and farmers cannot spend hours waiting on charging for instance nor can they afford less power via electric compared to Diesel engines. Farmers often run 24 hrs to harvest crops, using multiple equipment to ensure crops don’t get soaked by rain to push the harvest time or ruin the crop entirely. If crops aren’t planted or harvested, starvation will be a real thing.
As prices soar for energy, gas/diesel, food, etc. due to bad climate change policies only devastation can follow… Poverty, starvation, deaths from cold or heat w/o power, isolation, higher crime by desperate people, homelessness, suicide, less farmland, lower bird populations, and more. Makes one wonder if 1 - 2 degree increase in temperatures over 100 years is really worth all the pain and devastation that is here already with more to come…
It will take years to get back where America was in 2019 - 2020 even if fossil fuel is brought to producing barrels per day levels prior to Jan. 2021 when America was energy independent w/o relying on foreign oil or unreliable renewables. It’s time to bring back fossil fuels while putting Green Energy on hold until new innovation makes it 100% reliable and affordable to all or something else is found.
