Artist's Description

A blue rowboat with an uncertain future as a horrific storm builds and waves roll into the black sand beach of Vernazza, Italy. On October 25, 2011, Cinque Terre's 5 beautiful villages were hit by a devastating storm that sent walls of water, debris, and vehicles rushing down the mountains into their harbors. 10 people lost their lives in that horrific storm....

The morning of the storm, I went down to the harbor just before dawn. I could hear the waves crashing out in the Mediterranean Sea and the howling wind was strong. I took some night shots of the Vernazza Architecture and walked down to the pier's end just before daybreak. The intensity of the storm building gave me pause and a sense of dread.

After capturing images of the angry Sea, I set up in a different spot, only this time as I was composing my shot all I saw was water. Quickly I grabbed my tripod/camera and jumped back just in time. Water rolled over my boots as I watched the large wave break into the pier...
